Odorous House Ants Are All Over Now!
Odorous House Ants Are All O...

This tiny ant is one of the most common around Western Washington. It gets its name from the strong rotten coconut-like smell it gives off when crushed. These ants do not pose a health threat but they are an extreme nuisance. They will be attracted to many things for food, particularly sugary sweets. Their nests are commonly in exposed soil under stones, sidewalks and logs. When you find them on the second floor of your home remember they didn't come from up above, but are traveling up from the soil (maybe through the walls). Here's something to think about - there can be 100,000 members in a colony.
